This reproduction of Auguste Rodin's Danaïd is made in The Netherlands, using resin and featuring hand-painted details. For lovers of art and mythology.

Inspired by the Greek myth of Danaïd, the story of the fifty daughters of King Danaos who were forced into marriage with the fifty sons of their father’s rival, King Aegyptus. But their father, fearing his enemy's bloodline, ordered them to kill their husbands on their wedding night. Danaïd and all but one of her sisters obeyed, sealing their fate forever.

As punishment for the crime, the sisters were condemned to the underworld and given a cruel, never-ending task. They were forced to carry water in jugs to fill a great basin with no bottom. Their work would never be complete.

Rodin depicts Danaïd feeling the hopelessness of her punishment. Her body collapsed onto a rock, her head resting on her arm in exhaustion, her long hair spilling like the water from her overturned jug. Tragically beautiful.

The dimensions are approximately 5.5 x 3.5 inches.
